David L. Huntoon has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from St. Bonaventure University. He has Certified Public Accounting licenses from the states of Maryland (1987) and North Carolina (1990). He has been with the firm since 1990 and has been a member-owner since January 1, 1995. He obtained the designation as Certified Specialist in Estate Planning through the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 2001.

David has 25 years of public accounting service, with knowledge and experience in the areas of estate and gift planning, corporate, individual, partnership and fiduciary taxation. He has extensive experience working with many small businesses providing cradle-to-grave tax planning and compliance services.

Currently, David is a member of the AICPA and NCACPA and past Chair of the NCACPA's Taxation Committee. He currently completed his 2nd term as the President of the Durham-Orange Estate Planning Council and previousily served as treasurer and has completed the AICPA Certificate of Educational Achievement Program for tax planning and advising for closely held businesses. In addition, David is the past president and treasurer of the Kiwanis Club of Orange County, past NCACPA sub-committee chairs for the NC Department of Revenue and new legislative committees. He currently is serving his 7th term on the Board of the Chapel Hill/Carrboro Public School Foundation where he previously served as the treasurer. He has also held other various board/officer positions for local not-for-profit organizations.

Mark D. Brown, CPA (Member-manager)

Mark D. Brown holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has worked in the field of public accounting in Chapel Hill since 1987. He has been with Coleman Huntoon & Brown PLLC since 2000 and has been a partner since July 1, 2005. Since entering public accounting, Mark has expanded his knowledge in the areas of management advisory services and tax planning and preparation for small business and individual clients. He also assists clients in the preparation of their financial statements for internal use and for use by banks and licensing agencies.

Mark provides a valuable service to many of the firm clients in the technology area. He assists clients in the selection of software packages for in-house use and in training their personnel to effectively use the software. He has been a Quickbooks Advisor for many years. He works closely with clients and considers each client, large and small and of varying complexity, to be significant; each engagement is approached with innovation and creativity in mind. Mark works with clients in start-up and emerging business situations when they may need advice on the selection of their entity structure. Mark assists clients with addressing their international accounting needs with the growing global economy. Clients look to Mark and his colleagues for advice and structure in the international market.

In addition to his work in the accounting field, Mark is involved in community service activities: he is the current president of the Board for Volunteers for Youth of Orange County; he is the past president of the Triangle Chapter of CPAs and the Kiwanis Club of Orange County and has instructed kids of all ages in the local sports leagues.

Miles G. Pfeifer, CPA graduated California State University Northridge with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance in 1990. He has over 20 years of public accounting experience and holds North Carolina CPA license number 25999.   

Miles was made partner in Coleman Huntoon Brown in 2013.  He has expertise in the areas of corporate, individual, partnership and fiduciary taxation, and specializes in tax and business planning for small businesses and their owners.

Miles moved to the area in 1994 so his wife Tami could pursue a masters degree from UNC in social work.  They liked the area so much they never left.  Miles lives in Hillsborough with his wife and three kids (ages 8 to 14), two cats, one dog.

Miles’ interests outside interests include trail running, mountain biking, soccer, and being outdoors in all seasons.

Jamezetta R. Bedford, CPA

Jamezetta joined the firm in July, 2008, to assist in the small business and tax service areas. Her expanding responsibilities include tax planning and compliance as well as financial accounting for those clients who prepare management–based financial reports. A number of individual clients work directly with Jamezetta to guide them through the complex area of tax compliance. Her thorough problem-solving skills and calm demeanor prove her well-suited for her career in public accounting.

Prior to joining COLEMAN HUNTOON & BROWN PLLC, Jamezetta worked in the public accounting field in the Chapel Hill area for several years. Her experience as an Investment Trust Specialist at UNC Management Company is valuable as it relates to her work at our firm in the trust area. She also worked as a pension analyst while living in Maryland; her experience with two firms gives her depth in this area of service and in long-term planning for clients.

Jamezetta graduated with distinction from the University of Virginia where she majored in mathematics as an Echols Scholar. She earned her CPA license in September, 2005, and currently maintains membership in both the American Institute of CPAs and the North Carolina Association of CPAs.

After volunteering extensively in the district schools with PTAs and SGCs and substitute teaching for five years. Jamezetta was elected to the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education in 2003. She was reelected in 2007 and has served as vice-chair and chair of the Board. In the community she has been an active volunteer and advocate for citizens with disabilities; her dedication to this cause is reflected in her terms on the board of directors and as president of the local chapter of the Autism Society of North Carolina.

Craig joined Coleman, Huntoon, & Brown PLLC, in November, 2006, as a staff CPA for the firm. His previous eight years with another local firm's tax staff prepared him for greater responsibility in the tax and financial statement preparation areas with our firm. He works closely with the partners and the firm's business clients in advising them on monthly and year end accounting transactions and concludes the annual engagement with the preparation of their tax returns. He is also a member of the audit staff and focuses on the not-for-profit area of the practice.

Craig earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in May 1993 and a Masters of Accounting degree in May 1998 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His interim work in the mortgage servicing industry has provided valuable insight as he interacts with business clients. He currently assists the partners in tax and client accounting engagements and has direct contact with both individual and business clients. Paige is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and North Carolina Association of CPAs. She has over 20 years of experience.

Paige is a Senior Manager of the firm where she supervises other staff in the audit of a large international non-profit organization and assists in various governmental filings for such organizations. She also monitors and keeps abreast of new developments within the not-for-profit industry. Paige has a wide range of experience in issues affecting the not-for-profit industry from the preparation and presentation of financial statements for external users of such statements to the profitability analysis of operations. In addition, Paige has developed and implemented various accounting, reporting, budgeting and cash management systems.

Since Paige joined the firm in 1987 as a staff accountant she has accumulated broad accounting and auditing experience in a number of diverse industry groups. Now as Senior CPA of the staff, her greatest responsibility is in the area of the review of tax returns for both individuals and businesses, tax planning and various compliance issues in addition to the auditing and tax compliance for non-profit organizations. As a member of the firm's internal professional education staff, Paige conducts classes in several areas of staff training. She has also served as an interim finance person for clients and has trained their new staff on various software packages. Paige is relied upon heavily by the client base she manages.

Paige is also a member of the firm’s quality review team where she keeps abreast of current accounting developments and pronouncements. She assists with the overall quality control of the firm, including CPE requirements and independence issues.

Her credentials include a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She maintains her professional license in NC and is a member of both the American Institute of CPAs and the North Carolina Association of CPAs.

Paige serves as the financial secretary of her church and also as the treasurer of her homeowner’s association. She served as the Treasurer of the PTSA of her son’s school for four years concluding just this past school year.

Joanne M. Zimmer, CPA

Joanne is a senior member of the staff of COLEMAN HUNTOON & BROWN PLLC, where she has been with the firm and its predecessor for thirty years. She is a critical member of the accounting and auditing and taxation teams and serves as a goodwill ambassador with many of the firm’s current clients, including our many loyal senior clients. Her caring personality gives comfort to many clients who rely on her skill level and liaison with other firm members.

In the area of taxation, Joanne is involved in the preparation and review of business and individual income tax returns along with the related tax planning for these clients. She serves as the manager of the audit team which handles various ERISA and non-public companies. On non-profit engagements she is the manager and team member of several domestic and international engagements. Joanne’s caring personality has made her a favorite of many of the firm’s clients.

A graduate of the University of Maine, Joanne received her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting. She is a member of both the American Institute of CPAs and the North Carolina Association of CPAs.

Joanne’s primary firm administrative responsibility focuses on the management of our information technology system. She has interfaced with the partners in many areas of firm management, including handling firm benefits and serving as the former accounting manager for the firm’s financial activities. Her background in the banking industry has given her additional experience helpful in the public accounting profession.

In addition to her professional responsibilities with the firm, Joanne has been active with the Finance Council of her church for almost twenty years. While on the finance council, she assisted the organization toward reaching its goal of becoming financially responsible and charitable in the community by targeting sums of its offertory to the less fortunate in the community. For the past six years she has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Cornucopia Cancer Support Center where she has chaired the annual golf tournament each of those years, held the Chair position of the Board for three years and currently holds the position of Immediate Past Chair of the Board of Directors of this organization.
